Switching to electric vehicles could prevent millions of illnesses in US children by 2050, report estimates

Hundreds of infants’ lives could be saved and children’s health improved if the US power grid relies on clean energy and more drivers switch to zero-emission vehicles, according to a new report. Air pollution and climate change pose risks to children, and the report suggests that all new car shoppers choose zero-emission options by 2035. Additionally, the report recommends the use of only zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles by 2040 and the transition of the electric grid to clean and renewable energy by 2035. By 2050, these changes could result in significant health benefits and the saving of infant lives.
